9/11

May We Never Forget!

In the United States, Sept. 11 has become a day that haunts the nation of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Since the attacks, the day has been called Patriot Day or National Day of Service and Remembrance, and serves as a day to remember those who lost their lives. The day was passed by Congress on Oct. 25, 2001 and was signed into law by then President George. W. Bush.

"Now, we have inscribed a new memory alongside those others. It’s a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning. But not only of loss and mourning. It’s also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice, and the love that lays down its life for a friend–even a friend whose name it never knew." -- President George W. Bush

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  John 15:13

Transitioning

September. All of a sudden we are thinking about transitioning from summer to fall. I'm not particularly happy about cold weather and darker days making their appearance. But we don't' have much of a choice. So we go with it.

Diamond in the Rough

Diamond in the Rough (American Heiresses, #2)

Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano is a delightful Historical fiction novel. Jen Turano is known for her style of romantic humor.

Poppy Garrison is brought to New York by her grandmother in exchange for settling her parents debt. As Poppy tries to make her way into the New York Four Hundred season, the things that trip her up are hilarious. Grandmother wants to shape her into the Diamond of the First Water, and as such hires Reginald Blackburn, cousin to Earl of Lonsdale. to tutor her. The Earl  has come to America in search of a rich heiress. Reginald, keeping his own aristocracy hidden, find himself agreeing to tutor Poppy in all things proper. Poppy, independent and spirited, finds herself in more scrapes and a propensity to many funny predicaments. When stuffy Reginald starts to see Poppy in a new light, the romance blooms.

Diamond in the Rough was entertaining and light hearted. An easy read.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Time on the porch

We spend a lot of time on the porch this time of year.

I love spending time out there.
Taylor Smith Taylor dishes, vintage glasses and an antique quilt add to the coziness of the morning.

... especially in the morning.
Come, sit, ................. for breakfast on the porch.

Made in the USA

Does this place look familiar?

We visited DC  a few years ago.

Now I want you to pay close attention to this building. It sits directly across from the Smithsonian Archives. I think it may be the Navy building.

Can see the balconies at the top of the building? Maybe if you click to enlarge you can see it better. What I wanted to point out is that several years ago my hubby's company made the balusters that line the two levels of balconies.

Cool huh? Definitely made in the USA!
