Photo Friday

Right out of the camera. I don't know how to use Photoshop or other such programs. This sky was as blue as you see here!

Have a great weekend!

Where have I been??

Okay, so I've been behind.

I've always enjoyed reading, and when I find a book that is entertaining and holds my interest, I can't get enough.

Recently I checked this book out of the library.

For years friends had mentioned how much they enjoyed Jan Karon's books about Father Timothy and the little town of Mitford. During the years that I homeschooled my children, there was not much time for pleasure reading. However, after reading At Home in Mitford, I was captured. I had to read more.

I found books #2 and 3 at the thrift store, and I've already consumed both of them.

I've not been able to put my hands on the next in the series, not even at the library, but I'm not giving up. Until I can find Out to Canaan, I am reading A Common Life. Even though it is out of sequence, it covers the marriage of Father Timothy and Cynthia Coppersmith, which follows after the unexpected proposal in These High Green Hills.

Do you have a book that has captured you? Do you become consumed with reading every line? I've always been a huge Jane Austen fan. I've read all her books several times, and even have copies of the several adaptations in movie form.

Sometimes it's fun to get lost in a book, and very few have held my interest in the past. But Jan Karon and Jane Austen invite you into the lives of their characters.

And then they leave you with wanting more :-)

Have a great day!

Vintage Thingie Thursday

Yesterday was a good thrifting day :-) I usually try to visit the Super GoodWill whenever I am in the area. Some days are good, some days are not so good.

Yesterday I popped in looking for something that had nothing to do with dishes. But of course I had to take a look at the domestic aisle, you know, just in case there was some little treasure lurking there.

And to my delightful surprise, I found these little fellas........

And then, back behind them was this............
And they were all priced at this...............

So I kept looking around, back behind things, under more things......... and I said to myself, you know there must have been a little tray or something that would hold these little beauties together. However, searching in vain, I finally just walked away for a while. Sometimes you have to do that, to refresh your eyes.

I thought I would give it one more try. On this second attempt, I found a tray, but it was a little large, and the color was much darker then the patina of these little rooster condiments. So back again, I am searching, and my eye spies this.............

hummmmm........... right size, right color.

I turn it over and see this...........

Longanberger!!!! They make pottery?????

Don't they make a nice set?

All married up with my Rooster mugs (also a GW find) and the cocky crow that watches over my kitchen counter.

Easter Brunch

Easter. A time of celebration. We don't usually have Easter at home, as there is always a family gathering. But I still enjoy setting my table in honor of this special day.

~"But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy
and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you."
Psalms 5:11 ~

The Silver belonged to my BFF who passed away 6 years ago.

Her family did not want any of these pieces, so they passed them on to me.

~"Glory in his holy name: let the hearts of these who seek the Lord rejoice!"
1 Chronicles 16:10~

I always wanted dishes with sweet Scripture verses.

When I found these at Ross, my daughter and I were on the hunt to find enough pieces to complete the table.

~"Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations,
'The Lord reigns!'" 1 Chronicles 16:31 ~

It was so much fun making the rosette napkins.

~Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say REJOICE. " Philippians 4:4 ~

~ "Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready" Revelation 19:7 ~

This weekend we will be celebrating the Risen Savior. If it was not for the sacrifice HE made, we would be dead to sin, eternally. HE paid the price for the debt we owed.

We are all sinners, since we have all done wrong things. But God made a way for us to be forgiven so we can have eternal life in Heaven. All we have to do is recognize our sinfulness and accept that Jesus paid the penalty for our sin when he died on the cross and rose again from the grave.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

Have a blessed Easter!

Words to Live By

One evening this week, my dear hubby talked with me about a family situation. One that we were aware of. But my old sin-nature self reacted to my dear hubbys request. He has a heart of gold and is always eager to help someone in need.

After we talked I realized that I had judged the situation harshly. And the Lord admonished me as I read my evening devotions.

"The wicked borrows and does not pay back
But the righteous is gracious and gives.
For those blessed by Him will inherit the land
But those cursed by Him will be cut off

The steps of a man are established by the Lord
And He delights in his way
When he falls he shall not be hurled headlong
Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand
I have been young and now I am old
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his descendants begging bread
All day long he is gracious and lends
And his descendants are a blessing."

Psalm 37 21-26

I had to humbly apologize to the Lord. I do not want to leave my sticky fingerprints on the Lord's work.

God bless and go in peace.

Very Vintage Things

A year ago I traveled for the first time to Europe. My hubby was going to Belgium on a business trip and he wanted me to go with him. I was a little hesitant, as I've never traveled internationally, but the trip was wonderful.

The sights in Brussels were so amazing. I've heard of all the old architecture, but seeing it was truly an incredible experience. We are such a young country, and even seeing some of the pilgrim areas of the US do not compare.

This was the parking lot at the train station.

In the town of Bruges, the streets were lined with these buildings.

It is a canal based city which had significant economic importance. At one time, it was the "chief commercial city" of the world.

The city was chartered in July 1128.

Starting around 1500, the Zwin channel, which had given the city its economic dominance, started silting. The cities prosperity soon fell behind Antwerp. During the 17th century, the lace industry took off, and various efforts to bring back the glorious past were made.

The young woman who was demonstrating hand made lace told us it takes 8 years of schooling to make Belgium lace.

I was really fascinated with the beautiful churches and cathedrals.

Especially when you realize they were built in the 12th Century.

The center of town is the Market.

And of course there is a Royal residence.

We all commented that the little window at the top of this building was for a damsel in distress.

A very quaint restaurant by the canal.

Thanks so much for coming along on my Vintage adventure.

Tea for Me

Some mornings, there is just enough time for a relaxing cup of tea.

A slice of raisin toast or a bowl of granola will round out the morning.

oops, I think the water is ready.

Join me, won't you??

A dear friend gave my son these dishes when he moved into his new apartment. Most of the dinner plates were chipped and damaged, but the cups and smaller plates were perfect. No markings, but I think these dishes may be from the 60's. The creamer and sugar bowl were painted by my mother in love. I found the Hall tea pot at a thrift store for just a couple of dollars. The Vintage tablecloth was another thrift store find :-)

Please join me as we share tea with these other delightful ladies -

Words to Live By

"May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. " Psalm 104:34

Relax, throw open the windows of our stuffy little souls and let the cooling breezes of a better world sweep through! What will all our petty worries amount to fifty years from now? Rejoice in the old simplicities which no man can take away—like spring and green woods and mocking-birds. And, better still, rest our souls in the goodness of God and His amazing grace. –V. Havner
