Words to Live By

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to rend, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Vintage Crochet

My mom was a prolific crocheter. She loved to crochet. And I believe that she did not learn until later in life. I have many of the things she made. The colors are mostly from the 70's, but I don't mind. She passed away in 1979, so I treasure the things she left behind.

This throw is one of the first things I remember her making.

Then she got into Granny squares.

I love this next one. I believe she meant for it to be a tablecloth, but I could never put it on the table (unless it had a plastic protection)

Isn't it gorgeous?

And she made lots of dresser scarfs.

Now these pillowcases were not made by my Mom, but by my sweet hubbys aunt. She gave these to me as a wedding present.

Tell me, how do you use something this beautiful?

Whenever my BFF visits from the upper north, we always try to take in our favorite tea house. It's always such a treat.

So let me take you inside. We can have tea together -

It surely is such a girlfriend thing to do.

The tea is hot, and the food is most delicate

Let's do tea together. What are best friends for??

Words to Live By

"If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
The Lord will guide you always;
He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land -
you will be like a watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail."

Isaiah 58:10-11

Vintage Thingie Thursday

It has been many weeks since I have been able to post on VTT, and I have sorely missed it! I love seeing what special treasures everyone shares on this blog party. And I always enjoyed finding a treasure or two myself.

But this week I wanted to share a different kind of treasure. They are not really vintage, at least not yet. But it is an art form that is not being renewed with the younger generation. So please let me introduce to you the very beautiful china pieces that have been painted by my sweet mother in love.

My hubbys mother started china painting after all of her children were grown.

I'm sure she thought it was just a hobby to fill her "empty nest".

But she became quite good at her art, and continued painting for over 30 years.

She dabbled in painting glass, and has painted some very beautiful lamps.

She enjoyed it so much that she started teaching some of her friends. She even tried to teach me!

Almost two years ago she became quite ill, and has been on the long road to recovery.

Parkinson's has taken away the ability of my mother in love to hold a paint brush. So the paints, pallet, and china sit silently now.

I know many people think that painted china is very old fashioned. But I dearly love it, and have enjoyed these many pieces that were given to me by my second mother.

Please be sure to stop by Suzanne's blog and visit her blog party Vintage Thingie Thursday :-)

Outdoor Wednesday

For those who use Blogger, there is a message posted that Image uploads will be disabled for two hours on Wednesday Oct. 20th at 5:00 PM

And this afternoon, we had lots of red visitors in the yard.

There were two or three male cardinals, and one female that I saw flying around in the back yard.

I always enjoy visiting Outdoor Wednesday. Please stop by and visit the other delightful blogs this week.

Show Off Your Cottage

When we were moving into our new home, I was trying to post pictures as we were making changes to make this house "our own". A little detour, about 8 weeks ago, put a little yield to what I could do. But I am happy to share a little update on the eat in kitchen. My sweet hubby finally set up the hutch and my even sweeter daughter added her decorating touch.

I love how my daughter decorated the top of the hutch.

And she used a lot of my thrifting finds to accent the top of the kitchen cabinets.

Little by little we are adding things to warm up this house.

Thanks for stopping by. Please visit the "Show Off Your Cottage" blog party. This is my first time participating, but it certainly looks like a fun place to visit!

I praise you,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written,
every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

How precious to me are your thoughts,
O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

If I would count them,
they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.

Psalm 139: 14-18

Breakfast?

As I was walking past the front door this morning, I could not help but noticed my breakfast guests.

"What are you looking at?"

After a couple of rattles, they were back to their task of finding worms or whatever they enjoy on my salad bar.

I am still amazed to see these Sand Hill Cranes wander the neighborhood like they are someones pets. It has been fun to see the little ones all grown up.

Have a great weekend!

Outdoor Wednesday

Last year we took a trip to North Carolina. We enjoyed some of the sights from a very old city - New Bern.

Founded in 1710 at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse rivers, New Bern was settled by Swiss and German adventurers led by Baron Christopher de Graffenried from Bern, Switzerland. New Bern is the second oldest town in the state.

It is also the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola!

Who I Am in Christ

I am a new creation
Of infinite worth.

I am deeply loved.
I am completely forgiven by Him.
I am fully pleasing to Him.
I am totally accepted through Him.
I am absolutely complete in Him.
I was chosen for fellowship with Him.
Before time began
God purposed my life.
He made me special.
He made me unique.
He made me beautiful in His Sight.

A touch of fall

Today the shadows are playing. They are playing hide and seek and saying the days are getting shorter.

The smells and scents of the season.

Even the night air has a refreshing incense.

"The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from the summer cottons into its winter wools."
- Henry Beston, Northern Farm

Happy Fall ya'll!
