Pear Bread

Several years ago I tasted Pear Bread at a friends house. She graciously shared her recipe with me. Very yummy, and  definitely different than Banana Bread.

Pear Quick Bread

2 1/2 cups flour (you can use Whole Wheat)
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 large eggs
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-3 medium size Bartlett pears chopped (or 1 1/2 cups canned)

In a large bowl stir together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Make a hole in the center and drop in eggs, oil , sugar , milk and vanilla. Beat only until batter is smooth. Stir in pears.
Turn into a greased 9 x 5 x3" loaf pan Bake at 375 degrees in a preheated oven, 50-60 minutes or until center comes out clean.

Place pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Loosen edges and turn out on rack. Cool completely. Store, tightly wrapped in refrigerator, serve at room temperature.

Shades of Blue

I love these blue dinner plates I found at Goodwill years ago.  I googled the letters on the back of the plate -mse.  What a surprise to discover they are a Martha Stewart line. The salad plates are Mornay by Mikasa, Flatware Venetian by Community.

My Corner of the World

Some parts of the country are still deep in snow.  But here is the deep south, we have been enjoying 80 degree weather.

What a pleasure it is seeing these sweet little birds come to the bird bath.

See this little fellow looking at his reflection in the water??  Actually he was getting ready to hop into the water.
I tried to capture him in the water, but he was too quick, and my point and shoot was too slow.

Vintage dishes

For many years, when I would go "hunting" with my hubbys Aunt, we would be on the look out for these vintage dishes.

I've collected several designs and have at least 8 to 10 servings for each design. Not as many of the cups though. And unfortunately when I was bringing these dishes down from the cabinet, one of the cups made a crash landing on my unforgiving tile floor :-(

But isn't it fun to use these pretty glass sandwich dishes for a special occasion or luncheon?

Winter Blues

Yep, we all have them. After the hustle and bustle of the Christmas holidays, the cold sets in and we get the Winter Blues.

I thought I would share some nice warm pictures with you, and we can all sit back with a hot cuppa and dream of the Warm Days ahead :-)

Winter time also brings on the cool shades of blue. So I've set a cool blue kitchen table and hope you will join me for something warm and delicious.

Oh I hear the timer going off for the Blueberry Muffins. I've got the water hot, ready to pour. Please join me for a cup of tea.

Happy New Year

Auld Lang Syne History & Lyrics

This 18th century poem was written by Robert Burns and is traditionally sung at the moment the clock strikes midnight of the brand new year.
Auld Land Syne actually translates to Good Old Days.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne

We twa hae run aboot the braes
And pou'd the gowans fine;
we've wander'd mony a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne

We two hae paidled i' the burn,
Frae mornin' sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne

And here's a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
