Sometimes a thought develops and springs forth a new project. Earlier this week Coloradolady asked for a 12 month commitment to do something that will encourage, inspire, communicate, or show gratitude. What was that commitment? FIRST, FIFTH FOREVER is a challenge to write a a tangible letter to someone and let them know that someone cared enough to take the time to send them a greeting.
So my Vintage Thingies for today has to do with letter writing. Well actually it has to do with where you write your letters.
This Drexel Secretary was left in our new home by the sellers.
From the best we can tell it is probably from the late 50's or early 60's.
The thing I love most about this desk is that it reminds me of a similar desk my Dad had when I was growing up. I remember he would sit at his desk and do payroll.
This Lady's Desk was also left by the former owners.
It is so pretty and petite.
The roll top desk is perfect for writing letters and saving letters that are received in the mail.
This last one is very special because it belonged to my husband's grandmother.
It has been in my daughter's room ever since she was a little girl.
She actually made the bulletin board above the desk from an old frame.
So when it comes time to write my letters, I've got lots of places to sit and reflect on who the next recipient will be. Everybody loves to receive mail. Sadly it is fast becoming a dying art.
I am joining Coloradolady at Vintage Thingie Thursday.

My favorite is the little black one in your daughter's room. Of course, I love anything painted black!

Looks like you inherited some lovely desks whether from the previous owner or family. We had a drop leaf desk my husband refurbished and I loved it but we downsized terribly and it went to live somewhere else. I have always missed it. Letter writing is passe but I still love to do it.
Jocelyn ~ I love both desks ... how fortunate to have the one left behind, it is a beauty ... tho I truly love your daughter's ... & the beautiful memories.

I cannot imagine anyone leaving these great pieces behind. They all are a great.
Oh, what great desks! Perfect for the new challenge. I love the first one, that is such a beauty. Happy VTT!
Who would even think of leaving those items behind, they are just wonderful!
Wow, I can't believe they were left behind, what a deal! They are all great. I love old desks!
Your desks are all beautiful. How sad that the former owner didn't cherish their furniture but a blessing for you! I think writing is so difficult because we have come to rely on spell check! lol but so true.Have a blessed week. Debbie
I love your desks and can't believe the sellers left them behind (crazy them, lucky you!) Do you know that a friend of mine told me the other day a young gir (22-23 yrs) in her office was looking over her shoulder while she wrote someone a note and said "ooooh cool, you know cursive! I wish I could learn to do that!"
So not only is hand writing letters and notes fast becoming a dying art, but so is proper penmanship. What a shame!
Visiting from Vintage Thingie Thursday today!
Awesome desks. My favorite is the last one that is in your daughter's room. I even love the chair.
What beautiful places to write from! I have been trying to get back to writing personal letters again. I love to do it and think it truly is becoming a lost art!
Wow! I can't believe the former owners would leave such lovely pieces of furniture behind! How fortunate for you!!! All of your desks are wonderful, and I'd have a hard time choosing which one to use!
Thank you for visiting me ... please stop by again ... and have a lovely weekend!
Margie
