Heritage

Do you have some heirloom pieces that were handed down to you as a part of your family heritage? I don't have many, but I cherish the ones that I do have.

This creamer belonged to my paternal grandmother. My mom had it and I got it when she passed away. I have no idea how old it is, but it is special because it belonged to a grandmother that I did not know.

This desk and chair belonged to my hubby's paternal grandmother. I was so thrilled when it was offered to us, and now lives in my daughter's room.

These pearls also belonged to hubby's grandmother. They are yellowed with age, but the beads are such a nice size.

This cup and saucer belonged to my hubby's maternal grandmother. She had a teacup collection, and when she passed away everyone was allowed to take a pick. As I am low on the totum pole, the older vintage cups were all gone. But I'm very happy to have this one that belonged to "Granny".

This vase was my Mom's. I can remember it being in our living room ever since I was a little child.
The marking on the bottom. Unfortunately, one day while I was dusting I accidently knocked it over after it came to live in my house. I tried to piece it back together, but as you can see, there is a huge boo-boo on it. I still love it though, because it was my Mom's.

And this watch belonged to my hubby's paternal grandfather. My hubby's Dad gave it to him one year as a gift. I found this display case, so it stays under glass.

What part of your family heritage do you have? I did not come from a big family. Both of my parents passed away when I was in my early 20's. But my hubby came from a large family that I have adopted as my own. My in laws have reached 88 and 90 years of age, and they are still very actively involved in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Now THAT is a true family heritage.

Wishing you a wonderful thrifting week!

I have done extensive work on my family's genealogy so I cherish any and all family heritage pieces. You have some very special pieces and it's wonderful that you know exactly who they came from.
My most cherished heritage piece is actually a brick. My great grandfather was a brick maker, opening his business in Atchison, KS around 1862. The brickyard was a family business until around 1913. I have a brick that has my great grandfather's name embossed in the brick. It was found by a gentleman in town who was doing a home restoration. Since my father still lives Atchison, this gentleman called Dad and gave him several of the bricks. It was wonderful that he thought of the family when he found them. All of my siblings now have one of these family bricks.
Thanks for sharing your family treasures.

Aren't family heirlooms the best?! I actually have quite a few of my grandparents' things, and my favorite would probably be the two quilts that my grandma made. I wish I could use them on our beds, because they are so warm, but I'm afraid they would get ruined, because no one would take as good care of them as I do, especially the cat!

I adore family heirlooms. My favorite things are my triple mirror, six drawer metal vanity from my great-grandmother, I use it for my computer home, and the chair I sit in was my grandma's. The back of it reclines. Very comfy place to blog from, lol.
I love all your treasures!

Hello, Jocelyn,
I enjoyed seeing all of your family heirlooms so much! It is wonderful that you are so close to your inlaws. I have a little "June" angel that belonged to my mother. I will always love and cherish it. Thank you so much for stopping by for a cup of tea today. I always look forward to your visits! Have a beautiful week, dear friend! Vicki
