Johanna Berglund is a language translator, drafted into working in a German POW camp. Johanna is a prolific writer, corresponding with her friend, who happens to be Japanese American. 

The book is a collection of letters, telegrams and thoughts. The POW's are brought to this little midwest town to help bring in the crops as many of the young men are off fighting the war. Tensions are high, as the town's prejudice brings about a war that Johanna fights in an unexpected way.

Things We Didn't Say by Amy Lynn Green is her debut novel. Written in epistolary form, it was at first difficult for me to see the flow. But the author wrote her characters vividly and every emotion was exact. Very creatively written.

Hallmark Christmas

 

Christmas in Evergreen, Tidings of Joy returns to the Christmas magic of friends and traditions. Hope and love. 

City girl Katie and Evergreen resident Ben meet on the train. Learning that she is a reporter, puts Ben in a skeptic mode, but he soon discovers that Katie falls in love with Evergreen, with all it's warmth and welcoming. 

As only Hallmark and Nancy Naigle can do, this was a fun story. I didn't see the movie but I think the book is delightful. I enjoyed the characters and the way the mysteries were discovered. I loved visiting Evergreen. And of course I loved how the love story played out. A magical story about a magical place. It's always Christmas in Evergreen.

An Ivy Hill Christmas

  

An Ivy Hill Christmas is an inviting and delightful book written by Julie Klassen. 

The story centers around Richard Brockwell and Arianna Awdry. Richard, a committed bachelor, is requested to come home for Christmas. He enjoys his free lifestyle in London, but with finances dwindling, he resigns himself to make his appearance.

Arianna finds Richard to be rude and full of himself. The beauty of this story is the awakening of Richard's heart and of Arianna finding what fulfills her.

This Christmas story is heartwarming and well written. Julie Klassen is a master of the Regency period. I love how she wraps the true Christmas story around these characters. Very enjoyable.
