Treasure hunting

Treasure hunting is simply enjoying the process of looking for and finding something that you didn't know you were looking for! When you find it, it inspires you to continue the hunt for the "next" thing :-) Of course it has to be at just the right price, or else the hunt is not valid. It's the difference between buying something retail, or finding the very same thing for 95% off! The process is almost as much fun as the find.

Does this look like fun to you??

This last place - Olde Junque Shop - was, well, it was pretty junky, that's for sure.

These were some of the spots we visited while traveling through South Carolina. My daughter and I hit the antique trail and found a few treasures.

I think this treasure topped it off for my daughter.

We have seen this cookbook in many different places. Some are in very good condition, others are falling apart. We've seen a vast array of pricing, but my daughter found this one for $1.50. I don't know if many of you have used this grand old BH & G red and white cookbook, but when I got married I lived in this cookbook. I never knew how to make cream sauce, or cole slaw dressing, or even how long to cook a roast. This cookbook was my bible in the kitchen.

So look! Now we have a twin -

Mine is on the right, and it's looks pretty beat up. But it's over 35 years old, and has taken it's licks. However, this cookbook still has the best recipe for Coconut Cream pie, and even tells you how long to cook eggs ;-) A very worthwhile vintage cookbook to have on hand.

I was fortunate enough to get my mother in laws from her estate. I love it too! I remember using my moms when I was learning to cook. Great find!! Happy VTT!

Those stores do look like fun. I would love to take that road trip. Love the bright covers on those books.

Fun? It looks like heaven! I have the 1970s version of that cookbook and the images make me question if people really ate like that, but it's still wonderful.

That is definitely my idea of fun, and I had the newer version of that cookbook 27 plus years ago. I still use it.

Mine is 39 yrs old. Favorite recipe in there is the Potato Salad that calls from marinating the cooked potatoes with Italian Salad dressing. It is one of my most requested dishes. I sold many of my cookbooks many years ago, but I would never get rid of my dear plaid book.

I love old cookbooks, anything old paper, really, but especially things that tell you a little about life in the older days.

OMGosh does that red and white checked cover bring back memories. I am sitting here in my kitchen looking at my BHG book which I bought in 1988. My mother has one from the sixties maybe early '70's. I still use mine for roasting times and for cake and frosting recipes. And their pie crust recipe is the best one ever!!

Great find!

OMGosh - that is either my copy, or my mom's copy. And I am wondering if it has a recipe in it that I have been hunting for andcannot find in their new versions!
