History on a stick



 
 
Recently I read about these signs that mark historical places along the highway. I've seen them as we travel, but never really paid much attention to them. There is an interesting article in Our State Magazine. I'm sure all the states post these markers. You just have to look out for them as you travel. I've seen them on open highways and near cemeteries.

The next time you are traveling, watch for these signs. Maybe you can catch a key word and look them up online.  Or just stop and read a little bit about the history of that area. You just never know what you might find.

Storm Rising



"He's never killed a woman in cold blood before, but now was as good a time as any."

These were the first words from the prologue of Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig, a hook and the beginning of an epic drama. Former Navy Seal Lief Metcalfe is living with the fact that he as lost six months of his life. Due to his specific set of skills, he is given the opportunity to once again lead his own team of heroes.


The action is intense and the team of characters are set up to find the ancient text from the Septuagint, the Book of Wars.  Iskra “Viorica” Todorova is a trained assasin and just as bent on finding the ancient writing.

 Ms Kendig does a substantial amount of military research and it shows. Action packed, this thrilling suspense is a page turner. It is definitely an interesting read. Great for suspense lovers.

The back porch

Ever since I started reading Susan's blog Between Naps on the Porch, I've been in love with her back porch.

Our porch is not as large as Susan's but I wanted to have a little place to escape to read, enjoy tea or lunch or just watch the birds as they come and go from the feeder.

My original thought was to find some pretty white wicker furniture. But when I found this set at Home Depot, I knew it would be perfect for our little nook.

A little note about these luncheon napkins. My step-mother gave these to me, along with a matching tablecloth. The tablecloth was used til it became thread bare and badly stained, but I never used the napkins. They were a wedding gift, so they are probably considered vintage by now ;-)

I've been picking up these Boopie glasses at Goodwill for $1.00

Most days you can find me out here with a good book and cup of  tea or a glass of lemonade.

Let's have tea!

There were two things that fashioned this table. These beautiful roses............

and this gorgeous teacup..............

I couldn't resist imagining what they would look like paired for an afternoon tea.
