Keeping the plate clean on your iron can be troublesome at times.
I've used a product I bought from JoAnn's to clean my iron, which works fine, but can be pricey. My biggest problem appears to be the plate seems scorched in places. I recently found something that works not only on the scorch marks but on gunk that may accumulate on my iron.
Using a damp Magic Eraser (that I use to wipe away marks on my painted walls) I found that it also works on removing every mark on the iron faceplate. I had to use a little more pressure on the indention's as they were well baked onto the faceplate. But wa-la!!!

Awesome hint, I sooooo need to clean ours as I leave lots of starch brown after I clean and press all my table linens and husband browns his white dress shirts after I use starch. Not good, this is a great hint, thanks. I LOVE Mr. Clean erase pads, I use them a lot on many items.
They work really well on the bottoms of pottery rings too - cleans them up nearly good as new.
Great tip-thanks for sharing and also adding in a "moist" eraser-I am never sure whether to moisten them or not.
