The hunt begins

I have always enjoyed a treasure hunt. For years I would go to yard sales and estate sales with my aunt. She was a great teacher and a source of knowledge when it came to things of yesteryear. Of course the children were brought along. Sometimes it was fun for them, and sometimes it was a bore. They were always delighted when Aunt H would buy them some little toy or trinket. But eventually the children got bigger and they didn't want to go with us anymore.

Dear Aunt H is now living in assisted living, and is not able to get around very much. However, I have found is that my daughter has caught the bug!! When she lived in the Windy City, she started going to antique malls with her friends. She found many very cool things there. And when she moved back home, they came along too. So as she has started the Saturday pilgrimage of treasure hunting, she's been finding some really neat things.

I recently blogged about this dresser she found on my other blog, but thought it should have a place here.

It has the little wheels on the feet, so I am not really sure if that dates the piece or not. It has cleaned up very nicely.

She also found this really cool clock.

It is not a very old piece, as it is run by battery, but it has that vintage antique look to it.

The clock is sitting on this little book -

I found the book at the thrift store. It's quite old, and just made me smile as I looked at all of the needlecraft instructions from a day in time when needlework was a very important part of a housewifes duties.

Tomorrow is a new Saturday. I wonder what treasures my dd will unearth! Guess all those days of being drug around are paying off :-)

Happy thrifting!

G'morn, my special friend ~ The wheels do date the dresser. Your finds are great! This will be fun watching you over here . Hugs, TTFN ~ Marydon

I love thrift shops, yard/garage sales, and estate sales! I'm going to sign up as a follower here now. My problem is that I don't really have room to collect many more things......but I still enjoy looking.

So nice your daughter likes to go treasure hunting. I was raised that way and I love it too. I like your new blog. The background is great.

Have followed your other blog and will also enjoy reading this one.

Hubby and I spend Fridays going to sales and have found some nice things. My one dream is to find a shoe box (or any box) filled with someone's tatting equipment. So far I've not found anything to do with tatting except for 1 book.

I seem to have a soft heart for any material that will work with quilting. Also books or magazines that have to do with needle work.

Take Care and hope you can get back on your feet really soon.

How I love the hunt, almost as much as finding the treasure! Your dd found some lovely things! I have an old sewing book I found at a thrift store, 1941, and boy does it have the information in it - even how to make your own undies, lol! Not that THAT will ever happen.

Well now I know I will love this blog too. I too love the hunt....It is often a toss up for me on weekends....sewing or treasure hunting at estate sales, auctions or yard sales. BTW, did I tell you my Dh is an auctioneer?

Mom! TWO blogs?!? You're amazing. You again failed to mention that I bought this dresser for $50. It would be cool if any of your followers could give more info on it's age.

Antiques to me are NOT antiques - they're memories.......I only wish I had more of those "physical antiques" from Grandma and Gramps.

My DH and I have shopped thrift stores, flea markets, swap meets, antique shops and anything in between for years now. We have quite a collection of vintage items that we love. Our specialty is old chairs. We love to rescue them and recover them. They are much more comfortable than anything you find in shops now! Love the new blog!
