What's the secret??

A couple of weeks ago I did a post showcasing my beautiful African Violet.

Several people said they couldn't grow violets or have not had success.  Well I am here to share with you how to grow them successfully.

You see I never had much success with African Violets until I found the secret.  You want to know what that secret is??

Self-watering pots.

My poor little violets always looked so shabby and the leaves withered, not to mention that they refused to bloom.  But after I potted them in the self-watering pots..........  well they have been so happy and are showing me their pretty blooms.

I found these pots at Wally world.

I just used Miracle Grow potting soil and they all seem pretty happy :-)  So give these little pretties a try, using the self-watering pots.  They give such a lovely show throughout the year.

I love, love, love African violets, and have one now that I water from below, but she's not blooming. Healthy, but not blooming, so thanks for sharing the secret! ~Zuni

I like African violets now because my favorite Grandmother always had them
she had hers in a flower pot with a saucer under it and just put water in the saucer

They are beautiful. I learned from a guy who works in the nursery that they feed from the bottom to survive. That must be why ....Christine

I've never had any luck with African Violets, but I've never heard of these pots, either. I'll have to look for one the next time I'm at Wally World. Thanks for the great tip, I'd LOVE to be able to grow one finally. Beautiful photo in Tampa, too. Thanks for visiting me! Dawn @ We Call It Junkin

They have always been my favorite house plant. I used to grow them under lights. They would really hold their shape because they didn't have to reach towards a window for light. But I haven't had much luck in the last couple of years. I might try again and use these pots. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you, Jocelyn, for the tip. I haven't had an African Violet in a while, but I remember I did have the kind of pots you mentioned and mine did quite well. I had it in a window in my school classroom. The children loved it. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Vicki p.s. I am going to try my hand at growing an African Violet again.
