We have seen this cookbook in many different places. Some are in very good condition, others are falling apart. We've also seen a vast array of pricing, but my daughter found this one for $1.50. I don't know if many of you have used this grand old BH & G red and white cookbook, but when I got married I lived in this cookbook. I didn't know how to make cream sauce, or cole slaw dressing, or even how long to cook a roast. This cookbook was my bible in the kitchen.
So look! Now we have a twin -
Mine is on the right, and it's looks pretty beat up. But it's over 35 years old, and has taken it's licks. However, this cookbook still has the best recipe for Coconut Cream pie, and even tells you how long to cook eggs ;-)
Happy thriftin'!

Oh my gosh....if you were married in the 60s this and the Betty Crocker Cookbook were your kitchen bibles. Mine are both filled with the dates I first made the recipe and any notes (ie hubby's favorite or add more cinnamon). I have become a cookbook collector over the last 46 years. These two are the most loved and show it. Lots of reinforcements over the page holes.
My go to cookbook was Joy of Cooking. I've purchased some newer editions, but I always keep the old ones because they have recipes I like that are no longer included.
It's my favorite cookbook, too! I love the old ones. =)
I have this one - I better check out the coconut cream pie!
I have this cookbook. It was a Christmas gift from one of my first bosses more than 30 years ago. I hadn't been married very long at the time so this book was one of the first in my cookbook collection. I still have his Christmas tag hole-punched and placed inside the binder and treasure this since he passed away just last year (more than 80 years of age). It has the easiest and greatest recipe for Ginger Cookies!
I think this cookbook is the "Bible" of American Housewives for cooking! It is iconic! My grandma used it, my mom used it and I use it. I think every home needs the red and white Betty Crocker Cookbook. Thank you for sharing this with us last week at TTF. I hope you are having a terrific week!
That's the cookbook my mother had, altho hers is the 1936 edition! I still have it, and it's falling apart, but I still use it all the time. In fact, it's my favorite of all my cookbooks. I talk about it some in my mother's diary blog, too. What a find!
