If it's Thursday

................ it must be Thrifty!

A few of my recent finds ......

With the lid, and seal, in tact. Love the blue jars. Found this one at the Goodwill for $2. Most antique shops charge way more ;-)

My mother in love used to have glasses like these when I would go to her house for Sunday dinner with the family. She gave me what she had left. These were also found at the Goodwill, and they were in excellent shape. Ran them through the dishwasher with "Lemi-Shine" dishwashing cleaner. That stuff makes anything shine.

A cute little demitasse cup and saucer with very old looking Chinese words on the bottom.

Diana McClun and Laura Nownes, the icons of quilting, who also wrote Quilts, Quilts, and More Quilts!.

Isn't this a cool alphabet pattern??

I was so thrilled when I found this quilt rack at the Goodwill for $4.00. When I got it home, I realized it is pretty big! It's about 48" long!

Have you found any thrifty bargains this week??

Flutter By

A bush close to the place where we stayed in Georgia, was full of little flowers. It was entertaining several large butterflies and bumblebees. I took dozens of pictures, but this one turned out the best.

Stop by and enjoy

Outdoor Wednesday and

Seasonal Sundays.

She sells seashells.........

My daughter invited a group of friends over Saturday evening for a little get together. We were not planning on using the dining room, but she asked me to "dress" the table. Some of her guests were from Canada and Australia, so I thought a Sea Shell theme would be fun for our world travelers.

Please stop by and visit these other lovely parties -

Summer days

The days of summer are quickly passing by. We not only see the days pass on the calendar, we see the years pass as children grow up, and the seasons of life quickly change. The carefree days of childhood, where the greatest distress is the loss of a toy or missing a play day, will soon pass into the responsibilities of adult life.

King David expresses it in his Psalms and songs to the Lord of his heart.

"To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1

We each have a purpose in this life. And we have choices. We can choose to obey the voice of the Lord or we can choose to obey our own voice. The Lord promises to bless those who trust in Him and heed His voice.

"If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped. but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
Philippians 2:2-8

Vintage Red

Last week I posted about some of the treasures my daughter and I found at the Queen of Hearts Antique Mall in Alpharetta Georgia.

As we walked this Antique mall for 2 1/2 hours, my daughter came across a booth that was closing down, and everything in the booth was 40% off. Many times when we find a booth that is closing, there really isn't much left. So I was pleasantly surprised to find these beauties -

With the discount I bought 5 cups, 6 saucers and a creamer for about $10.

They are marked Made in England, but I think they will go with my Strawberry Hill Syracuse China.

I found these dishes about a year ago at the Goodwill. Never have seen this pattern again.

Outdoor Wednesday

I posted these pictures on my Quilting Blog but thought I would post them again for Outdoor Wednesday.

It seems a lot of folks are taking the last few days of summer for a quick little vacation. Well, we joined the ranks and took a few days away.

And do you know what we heard while we stayed here?

Nothing, absolutely nothing :-)

Makes it hard to come back to the "real" world.

Tea at the Cottage

Last week, as my family traveled into central Georgia for a mini vacation, we stopped in a little town called Pine Mountain. As it was close to lunch time, we stopped in at the Rose Cottage Tea Room.

Lunch was served!

And of course someone had to have a humungous blueberry muffin!

Pretty china dishes were displayed throughout the tea room.

We enjoyed it so much, that my daughter and I drove back on another day for another taste of their cuisine.

The warmth of a hearth

A year ago we moved into our new home. There were some changes that we wanted to make right from the start.

This was the living room before we bought the house.

After the former owners removed their furniture, this room looked so stark.

One of our first projects was to paint the room, build a mantle and remove the green tile that surrounded the fireplace.

Just adding the mantle and hearth really made such a huge difference in the appearance of the room.

Final results.........

And at Christmas time with a roaring fire :-)

Thanks to all of you who are nice enough to leave a comment letting me know you have enjoyed your visit here. I hope you come back again.

I'm joining Susan for Metamorphosis Monday.
