Stop by for a visit

If any one of you are familiar with Elisabeth Elliot, the widow of the martyred missionary Jim Elliot, I would encourage you to visit The Invisible Realities. This is the blog of a young lady who is helping to care for Elisabeth Elliot in her very golden years. I think you will be blessed.

VTT

I have not been able to contribute to Vintage Thingie Thursday much in these last few weeks. Busy days with packing and moving. But I thought I would post a picture of these antique chairs that were also left in the house by the previous owners.

I have seen numerous chairs like these at antique shops. They are in perfect condition and I love the little wheels on the front legs.

Please be sure to stop by Colorado Lady's blog and visit the other Vintage goodies today. Happy VTT!

Great minds..............

I love to read Hooked on Houses. Today as I was reading Julia's blog, I noticed a buffet she posted about from Russell & MacKenna.

So I said to myself, well I guess I must be in style, because this is a similar buffet I have in my own house.

I found this a couple of years ago at my favorite furniture store "Southern Hospitality" in Plant City. When I spied this little beauty, I stood by it and called my hubby from the store.

"Hey, are you anywhere near Plant City today?"

"Yes I am driving back from one of the plants."

"Could you stop by Southern Hospitality on your way back and take a look at this piece of furniture because I am not leaving it if we want to take it home."

YES! We took it home. And instead of paying $3700 for the buffet, the price - $349.00

Woo-hoo, it pays to shop around :-)

Blessed is the man who listens to me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting at my doorposts.
For he who finds me finds life,
and obtains favor from the Lord.

A recipe to share

Cooking has been a little scarce around here for the last few weeks. I make a big pot of something, and we can enjoy meals for a few nights. But tonight I stopped by the Greek restaurant and bought a Greek Salad for my family.

However, I do enjoy making my own Greek Salad, so I thought I would share this recipe with you.

Famous Greek Salad

Make your favorite potato salad. If you do not have a recipe that you like make potato salad using the following-

6 potatoes (diced, cubed and cooked)
2 medium green onions - chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise
salt

Mix together and chill

Salad ingredients -
1 large head of lettuce
3 cups potato salad
6-8 pieces of raw spinach
2 tomatoes cut into 6 wedges each
1 peeled cucumber cut lengthwise into 8 fingers
4 portions (slices) of Feta cheese (Greek cheese)
1 green bell pepper cut into 8 rings
4 slices canned cooked beets
4 peeled and cooked shrimp 4 anchovy fillets
8 black Greek style olives
4 whole green onions
1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
1/4 cup each olive oil and salad oil blended
Oregano

Line a large platter with outside lettuce leaves. Place 3 cups potato salad in a mound in the center of the platter. Cover with remaining lettuce that has been shredded. Arrange spinach on top. Place tomato wedges around the outer edge of salad, and place cucumber wedges in between tomatoes. Slices of Feta cheese should be arranged on the top of the salad with the green pepper slices over all. On the very top, place the sliced beets with a shrimp on each beet slice and an anchovy fillet on the shrimp. The olives, pepper and green onions can be arranged as desired. Sprinkle salad with vinegar, and then with the blended oil. Sprinkle the oregano over all and serve at once. This would be called a salad for 4.

I hope you enjoy.

New addition to the neighborhood

A few days ago, as I was driving to the new house, I spotted these Sand Hill Cranes with their little babies on our street. I'm telling you they looked just like little baby chicks. Yesterday I spotted them again, but the little chickies had grown legs already! They are so cute. One walks with the mama, and the other one walks with the papa. We have also seen a huge deer making a run for it across the yards, and my sister in law saw a big hog on the next street over. I didn't realize there was this much wild life in our area. But there are two Preserves that back up to one area. So we may be in for some other wildlife in the near future.

We are still painting, and the carpets are due in tomorrow :-) Woo-hoo, maybe by the weekend we can start moving in!

Words to Live By

The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
They still bear fruit in old age;
they are ever full of sap and green,
to declare that the Lord id upright;
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Psalm 92:12-15

Show-it Saturday

There are changes happening in the house. Painting, carpets, and a few other things that we wanted to do before moving in.

Empty living area.

This is what it looked like the first time we saw it.

But this is where it is headed.

Stay tuned, more to come.

I am linking up with Metamorphosis Monday :-)

VTT

Wow it has been a few weeks since I have been able to post on Vintage Thingie Thursday. With our move in the very near future, there has been so much going on. Painting and packing mostly. But today I wanted to show you several pieces of furniture that we were able to acquire with the new house.

This is a Thomasville reproduction china hutch that has a date of 1982 on the back. It is a very beautiful piece of furniture, that has been very well cared for. We are going to move it into the dining room after the painting is done.

This is a Drexel secretary which reminds me of one that my Dad had when I was a child. The doors are covered with glass and a screen.

And this piece is a ladies desk. Very dainty.

We acquired all of these pieces from the sellers of the house. In addition to this fabulous bedroom suite.

From what we understand, this bedroom suite belonged to the sellers grandmother. She said she remembers playing on the beds when she was a child 60 years ago.

Please be sure to stop by and visit Coloradolady's Vintage Thingie Thursday. There are more wonderful treasures to see.

And now, back to packing :-)

The day after........

I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th. Ours was a wet one. But the rains stopped before the fireworks went off. It was awesome.

My brother in law set up this nifty tent in the backyard.

Here he is letting everyone know that the CORN IS READY!

What a difference a day makes

The house really looks so different with all the furniture taken out. We have been painting and trying to pick out carpet for a couple of rooms. It is going to be a big transformation!

It really looks so big with no furniture. We are hoping to be done with the painting by next week. Then IF we have picked out carpet and area rugs, we will move our furniture in. I will be posting pictures and updating as we go along.

Have a wonderful weekend!
