What's your definition of thrifty?

Thrifty Decor Chick made a little comment on her blog post the other day about Goodwill's prices getting more expensive. No Sarah, it's not just you. Goodwill has been jacking up their prices, big time around here. It's absolutely unbelievable! I can't imagine what they are thinking. After all, everything is DONATED to them!! Plus the economy is not that great. I see some of the same things there week after week. But you know, every time I go to the Goodwill, it's packed with people. So people are looking for bargains. You do have to watch the items that you purchase. Like an item that was carried by the Dollar Tree for ONE dollar, and Goodwill has it marked $2 or $3, I just shake my head.

But on the other hand, if you are careful, once in a while you can find something like this -

Lenox Butterfly Meadow

ACK! My heart would have stopped and I would have been looking around for hidden cameras! What an unbelievable price! Was there just the 1? Score of the year and it's only the end of March!

What a great find! You have to wonder how it got there? I'm sure it is so happy that you rescued it from the Goodwill. Were there others?

I had the same experience. I was looking at a framed picture that had the original store price tag still on it and the thrift store was asking one dollar more!!

Pretty cup! Loved your tablescape also.
YES, I've noticed all thrift store prices going UP!! and way too many people shopping there (LOL) and getting all "my stuff"...while I really don't need anything else.
I'm thinking more and more "regular" folks need to shop at them, so the prices go up...
Have a great weekend.
Warmly,
deb

Ha! Yes, the ever-rising prices at my local Goodwill are the subject of much discussion here at our house. I don't mind them trying to get more for their various causes, but I *do* mind when buying it used costs more than new!! There's just something wrong with that.

Beautiful cup, by the way! Great score!

That is such a wonderful find! I totally agree about Goodwill. And, each store prices identical items differently. I have two stores which price all dishes and glasses 49 cents a piece. Another one bundles the matching pieces, so you wind up with odd sets like 2 dinner plates, 5 salad plates and 3bowls. Some of the things are priced higher than Ross, and I just shake my head when I see the prices. But, I am glad to see you scored so well!

You have kind of hit my hot button topic lately. I have almost posted about it in fact. I think the GW prices around here are ridiculous. I have all but stopped going in there and I will no longer donate to them. I'm donating to our Habitat restore instead because they actually keep thrifty prices so far.

I love YOUR thrifty find, though. That would be about five times that cost at ours.

(Ours chargers more for a used plastic charger than the new ones are at HL. )

Oh I know how outrageous the thrift store prices have gotten. It is insane. I love this cup. I really wanted the whole dish set in this design last Spring but, just couldn't afford it. Thank you for joining TTF and have a great weekend!

Yes, every thrift store around here has raised prices - but I know donations are way down, as well. However, if folks can only afford to buy clothing there, like us, it makes it difficult! I think you found a great bargain, Jocelyn, that cup is so pretty!

Awesome deal! I would have purchased it also. Yes, the prices are going up here too at the Goodwill. Savers has always seemed overpriced. I have a local thrift store that I prefer to visit more often. Visiting by way of The Thrifty Groove.
