Finding Treasures

On a day trip to a nearby town, my sister in love and I came upon a little antique shop. We browsed through rooms of china, pottery, primitive and retro stuff. But in the back of this little shop were linens, quilts and other textiles. I spotted this wooden box on the bottom shelf.

It was full of buttons, snaps, pins, and other sewing accessories. Of course I needed to add this to my sewing collection.

This is what was inside the box.

It was so fun to see the price of some items being 10c, 29c, 39c, 49c. Even the package of pink rick rack was only 25c for 3 yards!! The box appears to be handmade and has a name on the bottom.

Sewing has been a part of my life ever since I took Home Ec back in 9th and 10th grade. I no longer sew garments, but the skills I learned have been put to good use through my quilting experience. When I took my first quilting class 25 years ago, we were cutting fabric with scissors and making cardboard templates. Boy have things changed. And so much for the better.

I am joining Coloradolady's Vintage Thingie Thursday. Please stop by and take a peek at the other vintage things.

That looks like a great find. We have a factory in NC that has closed and now has a little store that's been going out of business forever. They carry a lot of old lingerie trim. It's cool to go through. Have a Happy New Year.

I always like boxes and the old sewing supplies are fun to have. I am always surprised when I see the current prices on supplies.

I too love these old sewing notions. You box certainly was filled with many teasures. I smiled as I read of your early quilting experience. I too remember cardboard templates. Now I couldn't live without my rotary cutter.

What a great find! I came across some old stuff like that in my grandmother's sewing baskets and one I bought at a thrift store. Now mind you, I don't even sew! Well, aside from the basics that do not require a sewing machine. I do have high hopes of learning someday...

Best wishes for a Happy New Year!

I envy anyone who can sew and quilt! I wish I had been able to learn from my great aunt as she used to make her own clothing, and quilt and tat and all kinds of good things! She taught me to cross stitch at a very young age, that's about all I can do though (I can knit and crochet a little too)! Enjoy your great treasure ... and have a Happy New Year!
