I am joining Suzanne for Vintage Thingies Thursday. Please stop by her blog site, Colorado Lady, and visit all the other vintage things that are being shown today :-)
For years we have used many different kinds of kitchen utensils. I never thought about it much, but some were my Mom's and they are pretty old. Here are a few -
I've used this old strainer every time we squeeze fresh oranges, or if there are coffee grounds that migrate into the cup.
I have not used this garlic press since buying a newer one, but I do remember my Mom using it.
And I'm not exactly sure if this would be considered a meat fork as it is on the small side. But it sure is vintage.
And one more thing I wanted to show today. If you have ever gone into a Cracker Barrel restaurant have you ever looked up at the antique things that are hanging from the ceiling? When you've looked up, have you noticed the lights? If not, next time take a look. And tell me if you think this looks familiar -
I've had this light hanging in my kitchen for 35 years. We had to replace the glass shade once, but this lamp looks like the ones hanging in the Cracker Barrel. This lamp has just recently died, so it will soon be replaced, but I just thought how much we have enjoyed this lamp (with a matching ceiling light too) for all these years. I wonder where Cracker Barrel stores their supply for the next restaurant they build ?

Hi, Jocelyn,
Seeing that tea strainer took me back in time. My mom had one exactly like yours, and she used it all the time for straining tea leaves out of the tea. Thank you for the stroll down the memory lane of my childhood, sweet friend! Hope you are having a lovely week! Vicki
My mother had that very strainer! And it looked just as used! thanks for the walk down memory lane
I really like old kitchen stuff, especially those with the painted handles. I have a wall that is covered with different things that one day I'll share some of. Neat. Next time I go into Cracker Barrel I'll be looking up! LOL.
Love the lamp, but can you believe I needed a strainer like this this week for a new recipe and I discovered I don't have one!! Guess it is on my list of finds..don't really want a new one, old ones are much better!! Happy VTT!
I love, love older kitchen things. I have strained and watched my mother strain tons of tea through one of those strainers..and ooo, that fork. Yes,it's what we always called a meat fork..I sure wish I had one of the older ones. hmmmmm, now, something else to search for.
Happt VTT..have a lovely weekend.
I am very familiar with all the vintage items you shared today. I could not believe it when I saw the light fixture. We had one just like that for many years. Never thought I would see one like it again.
I have the same strainer. would love to have the garlic press. I keep looking for one whenever I venture out thrifting!
I love vintage kitchen things. They remind me of visiting my grandma on the farm.
I think I will look for one of those small strainers. I have a large vintage strainer, but I bought that more for looks than use.
I remember the small strainers and those copper lights!
My mom had the same garlic presse it was the best! It disapeared...:(
I have that exact strainer. My mom gave it to me from her utensils when I got my first apartment. I've still got it. I love your "Cracker Barrel" light too. What a shame it's going away, but it sounds like it gave you some great years!
i collect kitchenalia and i've got similar utensils..btw i wouldn't mind having a closer peek at what's on those shelves behind the light lol!
I love your kitchen utensils. I used to manage a Kitchen store and learned to love gadgets there. But there is nothing like the old ones. Wonderful treasures!!!
Great old kitchen utensils. One of my favorite things. I've never looked at Cracker Barrels lights. I'm always so busy looking at all the vintage things on the walls. I'll notice next time. It is too bad you have to replace that fixture.
That light really does look like the ones at Cracker Barrel! I wish they would sell the antiques that they have hanging up there, and on the walls, don't you?
I have two little strainers like that. One more, and it will be a collection!
Happy VTT!
Carol
Goodness, I have all those same kitchen utensils that were my grandmothers! I LOVE Cracker Barrel - and yes I recognize that lamp!
I just love your lamp, I see it repurposed as a candle holder for outside, painted red! I love to reuse things like this! Maybe someone could use this, you aren't just going to throw it away are you? If so let's talk! :) Sandy
Maybe Cracker Barrel would like to buy your light now that you are done with it....

Enjoyed seeing all your vintage kitchen equipment, my mother had a strainer just like that one when we lived in the U.K.
We are big Cracker Barrel fans, and always have lunch there on our way to HHI on vacation. I'll be looking at the lamps next time for sure.
Happy VTT

Useful little kitchen thingies, of course you keep using them as long as they work.
You have been in my utensil drawers! Never thought about airing them out on the WWW tho..LOL! Thanks for stopping by and looking at my tiny sewing machines. Having two blogs is like having two drawers for stuff....LOL! I'm going over to your quiltin blog...I bet we have some similar things there, too...Sue
Great lamp and the fork is wonderful! I use a small strainer like yours all the time-I've even sifted cups and cups of powdered sugar with it!
I have my MIL's garlic press and it looks just like yours:) Thanks for coming by for a visit and please come again! Hope you have a great day!
Blessings,
Linda
That is so funny about the light- my mom and I were just talking about the same light yesterday-she has moved into my grandmother's house (the house she grew up in) and has the same light over her dining room table. It pulls down, right?
I remember all of those items in my mom's kitchen. Great memories. You got a lot of great use out of that light for 35 years.

Only 35 years? LOL! My, they don't make things like they used to, do they?
I love old kitchen stuff, too!
That's a cute little lamp...too bad you have to replace it!
My grandmother had that garlic press too. Old stuff is always the best!
I enjoy collecting vintage baking utensils. I haven't been to Cracker Barrel in a long time....just might have to swing over there and check-out the light fixtures!! Have a great weekend.
